Intercultural and Civic Engagement
Vancouver Community College offers a wide range of programs to suit their student’s needs and interests. These include University transfer courses, academic upgrading, high school plus apprenticeships, and programs specialized for students with disabilities.
UBC attracts students from every continent and is a hub of intellectual, community and cultural interchange. UBC provides support for international students including orientation, immigration, health insurance, and employment.
Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue uses dialogue to generate non-partisan and constructive communication around difficult topics. We partner with government, business, and community groups to explore critical issues that impact the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of our communities.

SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement supports public programming on social, environmental, academic and artistic themes through talks, workshops, events and community partnerships. The office also provides community educational opportunities.
The Public Engagement team at the City of Vancouver advises and helps carry out consultation with members of the general public where the public are able to influence City processes or decisions. The Public Engagement group utilizes both in-person and online techniques to consult with the public on a variety of issues, from the annual budget and capital planning to social housing and development projects.
NEC offers a learning environment that is culturally rich with small classes that are taught in a traditional longhouse. Our focus is to meet the needs of Aboriginal adult students requiring developmental, vocational, and applied academic programs to access employment or further post-secondary education.
Equitas works for the advancement of equality, social justice and respect for human dignity in Canada and around the world through transformative human rights education programs that build strong and inclusive communities.
The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is a multi-service, charitable organization, with immigrants involved as members, staff and volunteers. YMCA Connections programming particularly promotes immigrant integration and social cohesion within the complex diversity of Lower Mainland communities.
EIYP is dedicated to working with school communities to support new immigrant and refugee youth to stay in school and improve their chances of pursuing meaningful employment and educational opportunities. The program provides opportunities for students to develop confidence and skills through participation in activities during lunch time, after school and weekends. Youth workers help students improve their English skills and build leadership skills while enjoying recreational and cultural activities with their peers.
Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House is a community-based, intercultural hub that works together with neighbours to build a stronger, healthy and vibrant community for people of all backgrounds.
VPD provides Policing services for the City of Vancouver and partners in providing youth services, community outreach and Mental Health service and programming.
The David Lam Centre has served as an active link between SFU and the wider community for twenty-five years. The Centre organizes and hosts frequent academic and public events related to Asian art, literature, history, film and philosophy. Our central mandate is to enrich and strengthen Canadian society through fostering intercultural understanding. We seek opportunities to work with academic and community organizations who share this mission.
CNH is an intercultural, multi-service organization that provides and coordinates services and builds a sense of community in the Renfrew Collinwood neighbourhood.
SFU is “Engaging the World” by bringing interdisciplinary rigour to learning, embracing bold initiatives and positively impacting communities. SFU International engages global communities, both near and far, through deep and mutually-beneficial partnerships.
LISTN is a society of LINC providers in BC and the Yukon. Our organization facilitates the effective delivery of settlement (English) language services for adult newcomers.
VAFCS has been meeting the needs of aboriginal people making a transition to the urban Vancouver community since 1963. The Friendship Centre provides programs in health, welfare, social services, human rights, culture, education, recreation and equality for all genders of aboriginal people of all age groups.
FSGV works to inspire and support those in our community who need help to reach their full potential: children are nurtured, youth find optimism, adults feel empowered, and parents make choices that build strong families.
Vancouver Foundation’s mission is to harness the gifts of energy, ideas, time, and money to make meaningful and lasting impacts in communities. The Foundation brings together community assets to address current and emerging community needs and recognizes that raising funds to tackle an issue is only part of any solution. Through engaging citizens, organizations and governments the Foundation helps build healthy, vibrant, and livable communities across BC.
