Introducing VIP’s four strategy groups
The Vancouver Immigration Partnership (VIP) has created four strategy groups to plan and research initiatives focusing on strategic areas identified by the Welcoming Communities Initiative.
Two conveners report on the group’s progress to the Mayor’s Working Group on Immigration facilitate each strategy group. The four strategy groups are governed by guiding principles that emphasize openness, integrity, accountability and respect with all members who will always act in the best interests of newcomers. Members of the group share perspectives on the issues and needs of newcomers, support research initiative and develop action plans.
Strategy Group 1: Enhancing Newcomers Access to Services and Programs
This strategy group examines and addresses issues to improve service coordination across immigrant service organizations and mainstream service sectors.
Strategy Group 2: Strengthening Intercultural and Civic Engagement
With an aim of strengthening social relations and building community, this strategy group proposes civic engagement activities to bring newcomers together with Vancouver’s longtime residents.
Strategy Group 3: Creating Welcoming and Inclusive Workplaces
Building on the successful pilot projects with small businesses and local Business Improvement Associations, this strategy group seeks to strengthen strategies and develop polices to foster welcoming and inclusive workplaces for all.
Strategy Group #4: Governments and Public Institutions Addressing Needs
Public sectors and governments play key roles in supporting newcomers’ integration. This strategy group examines how governments and public institutions can better respond to newcomers needs including housing, health and access to local services.
