The Newcomers’ Resources section provides three innovative resources to assist newcomers on their path to becoming Vancouverites.
The Growing Roots Guide: A Newcomer’s Guide to Vancouver is a guide to programs and services designed to help immigrants settle in Vancouver and includes personal stories from newcomers and long-terms residents about their experiences living in the City.
The Vancouver Immigration Partnership has partnered with Passages Canada, a national online story archive to collect and share stories from Vancouver immigrants. Read stories from Vancouver immigrants or submit your own story to the Passages Canada story archive.
And finally, First Peoples: A Guide for Newcomers aims to fill the need for clear information in simple language about the First Peoples in Vancouver. It introduces newcomers to three important topics: who are Aboriginal people (or First Peoples) in Vancouver and Canada; a brief overview of the relationship between the Government of Canada and First Peoples; and current initiatives and ways for newcomers to learn more about Aboriginal people in the community.
