"We Heart Canada" Partnership with Vancouver Asian Film Festival
"What does it mean to truly belong to the communities in which we live? How has the process of migration shaped social and cultural identity?" These were some of the questions that we hoped to find answers to and share on the big screen through the "We Heart Canada" initiative.
Through an innovative partnership between the Vancouver Immigration Partnership and the Vancouver Asian Film Festival we paired immigrant and refugee youth with settlement organizations, community groups, and film makers to create short films that captured their stories of resilience, courage, joy and transformation. This project represents an important opportunity for youth to shape their own narratives and contribute to the discourse about belonging and cultural identity in our city.
The films premiered at the 21st annual VAFF film festival and were viewed by over 2,500 movie goers.
